The Impact of the Career and Technical Education program
Waking up every morning realizing that you have to get your binder for the same core class or you have to get your gym uniform if you have gym class. Have you always realize that your school don’t have a lot of opportunities then what other schools offered, even offering opportunity to help you prepare for college and career. Schools today continue with usual core classes (ex: English, Math, Science, and Social Studies). Since these standards have been introduced schools have been locked in place on what they could offer for their students. Lately one goal schools are focusing is college and career readiness. Welcoming college offices and Advanced Placement courses from the College Board. Some may argue that student don’t need to prepare for college and career readiness. But we as student believe that it’s is necessary to implement the support of college and career readiness. One program that can improve this is the Career and Technical Education program.
Vocational Schools use to be a specific school based on special industries (for an example: electrician, mechanic, etc.). Now vocational education (now refers as Career and Technical Education schools) are mostly include all type of career to help student achieve in that philosophy. According to former New York City Department of Education Chancellor Dennis Walcott, he states “in 1960 their are 18 career and Technical education schools, then called Vocational schools … Today, there are 46.”, with the success of the CTE program in 46 schools citywide. We can see that an outreach of has been growing, but in latest DOE results, there's at least 400 city high schools in nyc, according to the NYC DOE website. 400 schools total minus the 46 current CTE Schools make a total of 354 nyc public high schools don’t offer the CTE Program. But with rapid support to the CTE program in a statement to Urban Omnibus, Thor Snilsberg Executive director of CityScience, states “there’s an enormous amount of home growth talent for NYC to tap into”, meaning that with the rapid expansion of the CTE program with connect with students talent the CTE program will be successful for NYC to focus on. Certainly figuring out ways to improve CTE programs by rethinking, If the programs are necessary to impact the students learning.
After paying for college is a Number of opportunity thanks for the CTE program you have students to Excel more opportunities for the future after high school. Similar to Advanced placement (AP) Courses students who attends and passes the so course students can graduate with College credits to prepare themselves for college. But thanks for CTE program students your prayers he attends and passes the CTE program they can graduate with a CTE endorsement up, plus offering some college credits. Some student can be Lucy as stated from Deputy Chancellor Phil Weinberg, he states “...of the new programs will offer student the chance to earn an associates degree for free along with their high school diploma.” In meaning students can even get a head start to earn a college degree while in high school. Along with this student can also participate in work based learning (WBL) internship program. According to the statement reports of chalkbeat in 2016 2% of student participate in Intership program through the CTE program. This result shows much more improvements can be occurring during the CTE program. John Widlund, executive director of career and technical education for the DOE said the department has increased the amount of internship slot from fewer than 1,500 to more than 2,000. increasing upper teens would allow students to better fit their experience. Ass show and we can opt into achievement that would help the future be more accessible to increase student support in the future.
Many people believe vocational education is important to a Student Academic experience. The reason why is they believe so is because not a lot of teachers are certified to teach CTE programs. Teachers are More certified in teaching core classes, advanced placement classes, in addition, Academic classes. Even though teachers have to be certified to teach for Vocational education, many have seen improve them into the school's academic experience. Many schools in which introduce the CTE programs to their schools, hade an increase to use student graduation rates, students going to college after high school rates have skyrocketed for the schools. One example she is from August Martin high school in Queens New York which has been a struggle in school for the past couple of years after classifying as a renewal school, introducing a new principal, and also implementing the CTE culinary arts program The school graduation rate has increased in the school swimming environment has improved. Even though there has been a struggle to certify teachers is the CTE program the review has been clear CTE program should be necessary for schools to introduce the CTE program.
Interview called craziness is it beneficial program to improve student experience is to prepare for the future. By doing so we have to implement the CTE program. After seeing lots of benefits for the students to increase their learning capability, the program has also improvements the school's learning aspects By increasing the graduation rates. Even though there have been struggles to maintain the teaching aspect of the program. We can conclude that CTE program has been an necessary and beneficial program to help the students needs. Over all we need to support Career and Technical Education as the number one priority for the College and career readiness.
